about

An idea that has been swirling in my head for many years, in different forms. Love and Death brought it to me even more differently. Such powerful flows that change the bed of each one. Forces that pull you from two opposite sides. As strong as one is, so is the other. When love ends, a small death. When death knocks at the door, you hold on to life with your nails and teeth, with whatever is most life-giving—love.

The material for these songs has taken many forms over time. But maybe everything starts even further back. From the album of Melpo Merlier that my father used to play at home when I was a child. From the voice of Xanthippe Karathanasi, when I was a teenager.

“The Path,” initially recorded with Alexia. “The Thief of Love,” with the improvisations of Christos Barbas. “The Birds Fooled Me,” on the streets of India with Saki Laios on bansuri and tablas, together with my little Roxanne, just two and a half years old. “Heavy as iron,” a primitive form with K. Matsigos’ flamenco guitar (while Nikos was still here), but also differently, with Marios Borboudakis’ boulgari and K. Kyritsakis’ cello.

These were the first experiments with this material, many years ago. Giving birth, the death of Nikos, isolation during the years of the coronavirus, forced me to put this project aside for a long period of time.

And here they are, the people who brought me out of inertia and this album was born.

Without the love, persistence, and support of Yanis Mavridis, this would not have been possible.

With the arrangements of Philippos Kostavelis and Dimitris Tasoudis, as well as the whole team, this music was born.

Enjoy listening…
